The Great British Beach Clean
We combined our end of summer offsite with taking part in the Great British Beach Clean. In our recent team culture survey it came out that people wanted to do more for the community. Lots of our ideas were longer term and felt harder to get off the ground. This was a great starting point we could get involved in straight away.
The Great British Beach Clean is a week-long citizen science event, where hundreds of beach cleans take place up and down the UK. We chose Margate as our destination.
In 2022 volunteers helped to pick up over 141,048 pieces of litter, weighing in almost 4,000kg – roughly the weight of 26 bottlenose dolphins. The Marine Conservation Society reported, the average litter recorded per 100 metres is dropping year-on-year across the UK but there is still work to be done.
We collected a total of 50kg over a few hours, lots of things you would expect food wrappers, paper cups, cans a few things you wouldn’t like underwear!
It was a great thing to do together as a team and the Marine Conservation Society make it very easy for you to take part.
